Recap: European Girls' Team Championship Day 5 Match Play
Italy crowned champions at the 2018 European Girls' Team Championship after a win over Spain in the final.
The Italian team won both foursomes in the morning in the gold medal match and in the afternoon, Spain did fight back. But in the end this year the Italians were to good to let this slip thru their fingers.
Anna Zanusso won early and then they just needed one more match to go their way. It was Caterina Don who got the honor of securing that final point. She won on hole 17 and the only other Italian there was her caddie Benedetta Moresco and they celebrated shortly before running to meet the rest of the Italian team.
This was the second European Team Championship win for the Italian girls in the history of this championship. The first came in 2016 and last year they were runner ups behind Sweden.
Sweden, the defending champions, finished in third place after beating Czech Republic in the bronze medal match. It was a tight match but both Louise Rydqvist and the Andrea Grimberg-Lignell won single matches on the 18th and Sweden got a well-deserved medal.
